The Story Behind Chroma Art Studio
Chroma is a family-owned art studio in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, dedicated to helping people discover their creativity through art classes, workshops, and social paint events. Since 2013, Chroma has been a place where beginners and experienced artists alike can relax, have fun, and create something unique.
It all started with a simple idea: art should be welcoming, social, and accessible to everyone.
Chroma was founded in 2013 by Cassie (Rains) Scolman, who envisioned a creative space where people could gather with friends, enjoy a glass of wine or beer, and explore their artistic side. At the time, paint-and-sip style art experiences were still new to the area, making Chroma one of the first studios of its kind in Jefferson County.
The original studio was located in the historic church building on East Milwaukee Avenue in Fort Atkinson, where the mission was simple: prove that everyone can be creative and that making art should always be fun.
In 2017, when Cassie moved on to pursue other creative ventures, her sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Mike Turner, stepped in to continue the vision. Since then, they have continued to offer art classes, creative workshops, private parties, and community events, helping make it a go-to destination for things to do in Fort Atkinson and the surrounding communities.
In 2024, when the historic church building was sold to a new congregation, Chroma adapted by becoming a mobile art studio, bringing art classes and creative events to locations throughout the area while searching for a new permanent home.
In Spring 2026, Chroma opened its next chapter in a new location on Main Street in Fort Atkinson, sharing space with Tattooed Tree Books. The studio continues to host art workshops, paint nights, creative classes, and private events designed to bring people together and inspire creativity.
Today, Chroma remains committed to its original mission: creating a welcoming space where the community can gather, make art, and discover that creativity belongs to everyone.
